It’s time for the final aloha, tiki lovers. This summer’s Hukilau, the 13th annual tribute to authentic mid-century Polynesian Pop culture in Fort Lauderdale, will be the last.

Hukilau will take place June 11-15 at Bahia Mar Beach resort and the historic Mai-Kai restaurant.

Musical guests will include The Left Arm of Buddha, The Blue Hawaiians, The Smokin’ Menehunes, The Intoxicators, Gold Dust Lounge, Slip and the Spinouts, and Skinny Jimmy & The Stingrays. And special guests will include King Kukulele and Marina the Fire Eating Mermaid.

Tiki Kiliki — a.k.a. Christie J. White, the event’s producer and co-founder –says she wants to devote more time to her family and career.

“The Hukilau is a torch that I have carried for 13 years. We have definitely done our job in the way of helping assist to preserve and bring awareness to the amazing Mai-Kai and spread the Aloha spirit,” she said. “Although I will miss the event, we never need an excuse to visit a historic Tiki palace, every day we make the pilgrimage to one of these historic sites we help keep the doors open and the history alive.

“The Mai-Kai will live on long after we are gone.”
